The questions most frequently asked of Shelly and her answers
Q: Are your characters based on real people?
A: They're composites of friends and people I've known.
Q: How much of your personality is Brandy?
A: Sadly, almost all of it. I'm not that creative...but I am that crazy.
Q: Are the restaurants you reference real?
A: Some, yes, like the Melrose Diner, Pat's Steaks and Ralph's.
Q: Do you eat as much chocolate as Brandy?
A: More.
Q: Where do you get your story ideas?
A: Sometimes from news articles, but I just make most of it up.
Q: Is the character of Rocky based on your cat?
A: Actually, no. It's the other way around. I got just what I wished for! However, it is my cat Phoebe who has a penchant for tomato sauce.
Q: Who would you like to see star in a movie version of the Brandy Alexander series?
A: Well, Johnny Depp for starters--then again, I think Johnny Depp should star in every movie. Seriously though, everyone has a different idea of who they picture in the roles, so I wouldn't want to ruin that by adding my personal bias.
Q: Do you have a favorite character?
A: I love them all. These people are so real to me! However, I especially love Brandy and John's friendship.
Q: Have you ever had a Brandy-style adventure?
A: Well, I've never found human body parts in my freezer, gotten kidnapped or chased down by a violent criminal on the streets of Philly, but I do lay claim to some of the more embarrassing Brandy moments--although I won't divulge which ones!
Q: Are your books available on the Kindle or any e-readers?
A Not yet, but I am working very hard to get the books available to readers in this format.
