Shelly Fredman's No Such Thing as Brandy Alexander Mystery series
Meet Shelly

I firmly believe what I once read on a bumper sticker -"Reality is for people who lack imagination."

A former Philadelphian, I now reside in Santa Monica, California where I split my “real life” between writing, teaching elementary school, consuming mass quantities of chocolate and enjoying the many characters that manifest themselves in my head (in the non-clinical sense).

A little about me:

I share my life with my beautiful daughter Corey and Dudley, the greatest guy in the world. I love the photo of us on my homepage.

That's Dudley (a.k.a "The Ace")- ya know, the guy I married - in the Barnes and Noble café photo, reading a book about "ROCKY" on the Philadelphia webpage.

We share our lives with three cats, Phoebe, Megan and Rocky.  I take bits of each one's special quirks and incorporate it into the fictional Rocky's personality.  Our wonderful Dalmation-Golden Retriever, Elwood, died last year (look for a tribute to him in Free Ride) and we now have an equally wonderful, delightfully bad puppy named Romie.  She's a terrier-boxer mix and completely adorable.

Some fun tidbits of trivia about me:

I graduated from Temple University in Philly (Like Brandy) and have lived in L.A. my entire adult life. Brandy and I think VERY much along the same lines and we both share the same eating habits, the poor girl.

Among the  jobs I had when I was a kid, working my way out to California, was a telephone interviewer and a gas station attendant.

I was in the audience on the MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW in Philadelphia, in 1973, when John and Yoko were co-hosts for the week.  On the Friday show they asked for audience questions.  There is a boxed set of the entire week on DVD and I am on the tape asking John Lennon a question.  I was 19 and it remains a highlight of my life!

Last, but not least, I believe that Johnny Depp should be the leading man in EVERY movie.

My warmest wishes from the bottom of my chocolate-loving little heart.
